PSYCHIATRIC
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES
Dr Davies has an interest in Occupational Health
Psyciatry and undertakes Continuing Professional Development in this
area.
INSURANCE (IME),
EMPLOYMENT & ILL HEALTH RETIREMENT REPORTS
- Occupational Reports for Insurers, Employers,
Trades
Unions and Pension Schemes providers can be provided. These are usually
regarding fitness for work, ill health benefits and / or ill health
retirement.
- The typical cost of an Employment Report or IME
(Independent Medical Examination) for Insurers is £350.00 if not
being used for medico-legal purposes.
- Litigation reports relating to workplace stress
cases
and Disability Discrimination Act cases are undertaken as medico-legal
(rather than Occupational Health) work.
PSYCHIATRIC
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES
- Mental health problems are now the
leading cause of absenteism from work.
- Work related mental health problems cost the UK
£15 billion per year
(2007).
- The term work-related stress is ubiquitous, but
is not a Psychiatric Diagnosis!
- Many of us find work stressful (up to 91% in a
recent study!). Individuals with a Psychiatric disorder may be more
likely to find everyday demands more difficult to deal with.
- Work-related
stress can be a useful description for short-term
absences due to mild symptoms. But if used for longer term
absences or more severe symptoms, it can prove to be a barrier to
diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as Depression and Anxiety
Disorders. Prompt recognition and diagnosis of these conditions can
lead to earlier return to work, reduced costs for the employer, and
longer term health gains to the employee.
- Counselling can be useful for mild depression,
but is not the best solution for everyone.
- Dr Davies is available on a
Consultancy basis to
employers to advise on fitness for work, return to
work, and other Psychiatric
Occupational Health matters. He can assist in arranging suitable
Psychological treatment but does not provide this himself.
